Renewing Books

How do I renew a loan?

From the 19th of December, 2017 all standard loan and 3 day loan items will automatically renew up to a maximum of 9 times except in cases where -

  • The user has fines of more than €5 on their account
  • Another user has requested the item in which case you will receive a text and email to let you know the item has to be returned in 3 days or fines will be added to your account.
  • You have another overdue item on your account.

The automatic renewal will take place two days before the due date of the loan. You will not be notified that a loan has been automatically renewed but will be notified before it becomes due by an email to your email address so watch out for those notifications.

The exception to automatic renewals are the 1 Day loan items. You can try to renew them through your Library Account. Be aware that if a 1 Day loan items becomes overdue you will be fined €4 per day or part thereof.

When renewing online, there are several steps:

  • Sign in to your Library account from the Library catalogue
  • Click on loans
  • Click on the 'Renew All' or tick the box for the relevant item and click 'Renew Selected'

Please note that it is not possible to renew books that have been requested by another Library user.  If someone has requested a book which you have on loan your due date may change to an earlier date.
