Before undertaking doctoral or other high-level research it is vital to ensure that the research you are about to undertake is original.
To ascertain this, it is crucial to establish a firm knowledge of current and past research undertaken in your area. This will also inform the direction and intent of your own study.

Even when your literature review is complete, it is very important to ensure you are Keeping Up-To-Date with New Research.
The library has several online tutorials that will help you with your literature review and research.
The Research Methods in Literature Review tutorial, aimed at postgraduate students, is available on GST1 on Blackboard. Undergraduates must log on to Blackboard and self-enrol in the Learning Centre to use this tutorial. Once you have access to the Learning Centre, click on Graduate Research Skills in the menu on the left hand side.
