IReL
IReL - Irish Research eLibrary
IReL is a nationally funded initiative aimed at providing researchers in Irish universities with access to the information resources they require for their research. Many of the databases and e-journal collections that you can access through the Library Catalogue are in fact funded by IReL.
Funded by the HEA (Higher Education Authority), the DJEI (Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation) and the IUA Council (Irish Universities Association), IReL provides essential research infrastructure in the form of access to scholarly and scientific literature, supporting research in STM (Science, Technology, Medicine) and AHSS (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences).
The IUA Librarians' Group, of which University Librarian John Cox is a member, has overall responsibility for this collaborative project, and NUI Galway’s interests are represented on the IReL Steering Group by Monica Crump.
- Accessing IReL Resources:
We recommend accessing IReL resources through the Library catalogue, as this will ensure you are correctly authenticated as an NUI Galway user, even if you are off campus (login required). Search for IReL to see the full list of resources funded by IReL.
