Online Training

While the Library provides a range of face-to-face training events, we recognise that many of our students are based off-campus or find it difficult to get to the Library to attend training sessions. For this reason, we provide a range of online training modules, training videos and guides.

Getting started on using Library resources

Get started on using Library resources and managing information with the following guides and tutorials:

• NUI Galway Library Guide
Introduction to the Library video
“How Do I?” guides to using the Library
• Guide to Literature Searching
Useful Guides
Audio Tour of the Library

Information Skills Module

This online self-directed learning module on Information Skills will equip you with the skills of finding, evaluating and using information efficiently and effectively. With these skills you will find your essays and study less daunting, and experience shows that students with good information skills gain better marks. This module is aimed primarily at undergraduates, but would be of benefit to anyone wishing to improve their information skills.

Graduate Information Literacy Module

The Graduate Information Literacy Module is aimed at postgraduate research students, completing a PhD or Research Masters, as well as post-doctorate staff.  It will give you the skills to be more efficient and effective in your information seeking, evaluation and use. It will also help you to be more effective in publishing and disseminating the results of your research.

The Research Methods in Literature Review tutorial, aimed at postgraduate students, is available on GST1 on Blackboard. Undergraduates must log on to Blackboard and self-enrol in the Learning Centre to use this tutorial. Once you have access to the Learning Centre, click on Graduate Research Skills in the menu on the left hand side.
